“With a heavy heart”…
I never want to see it or hear it, but it happens. Weddings get postponed or called off for a number of reasons. Just last week, a cancellation came due to a financial crisis. For Jenn & Colin, it was the sudden and tragic death of a family member that compelled them to cancel what would have been a shiny and spectacular new years wedding.
I’d already personally invested a piece into their relationship. We’d photographed their engagement session at Seven Tubs in Wilkes-Barre, PA. They shared their story, how they’d met, fallen in love, and were planning their future together. I was excited for them and I was rooting for them.
For the next year, social media was a source of small bits of encouragement. It’s not my place to pry, so I kept tabs looking for positive news. Hoping to see new photos of them together, hoping to see their relationship flourishing in spite of the tragedy. They weren’t huge on sharing, but there was enough.
388 days passed before I received the official word that a new wedding date was set. Trepidation set in as I checked their early spring date in my calendar – it was free! The news was exciting on its own – and being able to photograph the next chapter of this story was even more exciting.
During the time between their initial and new wedding date, Colin & Jenn had relocated a bit further away for new jobs. They’d bought a house, adopted a couple of cats and were really doing well. We met to go over their wedding plans and catch up and everything was set.
The morning for me started by meeting up with the guys who were getting straight shaves and fresh cuts so they could look and feel their best. There was a bit of a celebration going on all around as the college locals were celebrating their version of St. Patricks Day. It helped create a fun and entertaining vibe downtown at the barber shop.
From there, I visited Colin & Jenn’s house and met their cats along with mothers, flower girls and the rest of the ladies who were standing with Jenn that day. Smiles and laughs were shared – along with a couple glasses of champagne.
The parties met together at the Folino estate where Colin & Jenn got the chance to share a little time together while we started photos. We all braved the chilly and wildly windy day for a few moments before retreating to safety. They cetainly didn’t let the lingering winter weather get them down at all.
I’ll let the images fill in the rest of the story. The tender and heartfelt moments created a cadence that moved through an intimate ceremony and into a rocking party. This wedding was worth the wait.
Colin & Jenn’s day was beautiful and it’s a privilege to show some of the images that were captured. I hope that they, along with their friends and family will enjoy them for years to come.
