I really do enjoy the uniqueness of every couple that I get to photograph. For Gina & Bryan, the engagement session was pretty close to tryouts for their wedding. Although they’re from Long Island, they’ve chosen to have a winter wedding this January at the Woodloch Resort nearby. They found me and contacted me and we set up a consultation. Then Gina says to me – “Why don’t we just shoot the engagement photos while we’re there?”
In most cases, I’ve met with the client and had time to process our interactions before the engagement session. It gives me some time to consider how best to photograph them. Sometimes I even get the luxury of tracking them down on social media sites so I can see how they look in snapshots taken by friends and family. Not this time, so I was already a little more nervous than normal.
Then came a bigger curveball. We sat down, got some coffee and started chatting. These two are a super cute, super fun couple. The football player, the cheerleader – they’ve been together since high school. I’m starting to feel a little less nervous, then Gina says to me – “I don’t like having my picture taken.”
This is what was going on in my head…
(Best Disney animated movie since Lion King, in my opinion…)
So here they are! I wanted to show these photos off a little differently from my recent blog posts, so you get to enjoy this one in pure monochromatic glory.
I most likely had them thinking “What did we just get ourselves into?” When I saw this chalkboard wall and asked them to wait while I ran gamely back to the car to get some chalk out of my trunk…
Draw each other… have some fun with it!
Can you see the resemblance?
I quickly found out that Bryan is the kind of guy who doesn’t always takes things seriously, except this photo. I feel like this is a pre-fight photo for an MMA bout…
j/k.
As much as this shot makes me want to go out and pick up a copy of “Children of the Corn”. I’d just like to point out to the viewer that those aren’t really grave stones!
So I had a ton of fun shooting these, they had a ton of fun as well, so they say. I truly hope you enjoy them!
