It’s a pretty exciting opportunity to have someone ask you to be there to capture such a beautiful and intimate moment. When Kern first mentioned the idea, I wasn’t sure what he had in mind, but as we talked and the plan started to come together, I got more and more excited for him and Brooke.
While it may have involved freezing my buns off for an hour while helping with some of the preparations and then laying in wait for them, I was warmed by the beauty of the moment. This took place on Lake Ariel, where a family that is very close to Brooke and Kern have a cottage.
I was asked how Kern convinced Brooke to come out to a frozen lake in 15 degree weather with decent winds and flurries on top of that! Interestingly enough, Brooke had suggested that she and Kern get a change of scenery at some point that week. Perfect for the set up!
Kern told me afterwards that Brooke’s first question on seeing the rose-petal strewn dock was “Is that blood on the dock?” — Someone might have been watching too many zombie movies lately…
It was cold. Very. Very. Cold.
🙂
I think she might have figured out what’s going on at this point…
I got choked up right about this point…
Thanks a ton to Devon for lending us his GoPro – we were able to video record the whole event as well! This is a frame from the video:
Favorite moment captured 🙂 This makes me melt a little inside.
Side note, while it might seem wise to ask the photographer which hand to put the ring on… We tend to see the world in reverse… So yeah, the right hand thing was wholly my fault – but let’s get back to the couple being super cute…
So, I come out of hiding to take some more portrait oriented images… and Brooke was still completely speechless. It was adorable.
I am really looking forward to the next time I get an opportunity for this type of shoot. As much as I hope it’s warmer than 15 degrees, I won’t let that stop me from sharing in moments like these. Having a photographer on hand also allows for some last minute setup! I got to put the flower petals down while Kern and Brooke were driving out there since Kern didn’t want them to blow away.
